The BMW M4 is a rear-wheel or four-wheel-drive premium coupe (D-class by European standards), which, according to the automaker itself, combines "the genes of a sports car and an everyday car, and all this in a very emotional overall concept" ...

The main target audience of a two-door car is wealthy people leading an active lifestyle, for whom the "driving" component of the car is especially important ...

The "charged" BMW M4 coupe of the second generation with the in-house marking "G82" appeared in all its glory to the general public on September 23, 2020 during an online presentation, and immediately after this event, the car became available for order in the world's leading markets.

In general, outwardly, the “second” BMW M4 is made in the same vein as the 4-Series, right down to the huge “nostrils” of the radiator grille on the “face”, but it will not be difficult to recognize the “lighter” against the background of the “civilian” model - it is possible to identify it a body kit around the body, widened wheel arches, mirrors with special housings, a spoiler on the trunk lid and four exhaust pipes at once.

Size and weight

The length, width and height of the premium coupe are 4794 mm, 1887 mm and 1393 mm, respectively. The wheelbase of the car extends to 2857 mm, and its ground clearance does not exceed 120 mm. The curb weight of the two-door varies from 1700 to 1800 kg, depending on the modification.

Interior

The BMW M4 of the second generation boasts a beautiful and presentable design, impeccable ergonomics and exclusively premium finishing materials, and it is organized according to the "2 + 2" scheme, that is, only children will sit in the back more or less comfortably.

A sports steering wheel with M-mode selection buttons, front bucket seats and a red engine start button can be used to recognize the M-direction of the car.

In the arsenal of the "charged" two-door there is quite a decent luggage compartment - its volume in its usual form is 440 liters.

Specifications

The second-generation BMW M4 is armed with a 3.0-liter S58 inline-six gasoline engine with twin turbocharging, direct fuel injection, 24-valve timing and phase shifters at the inlet and outlet, available in two boost options:

  • by default, it develops 480 horsepower at 6250 rpm and 550 Nm of torque at 2650-6130 rpm;
  • and on the "top" version of the Competition - 510 hp. at 6250 rpm and 650 Nm of ultimate thrust at 2750-5500 rpm.

On the 480-horsepower modification, exclusively 6-speed "mechanics" and leading rear wheels are installed, while the 510-horsepower version is equipped with an uncontested 8-band "automatic" M Steptronic, but in combination with either rear or all-wheel drive with multi-disc front wheel clutch and full drift mode.

Dynamics, speed and consumption

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h for a two-door car takes 3.9-4.2 seconds, and the peak of its capabilities falls on 250 km / h (although for a surcharge the bar of the "electronic collar" can be shifted to 290 km / h).

Fuel consumption of a premium coupe varies from 10.2 to 10.8 liters for every “hundred” of mileage in the combined cycle, depending on the version.

Design features

The second "release" of the BMW M4 is based on the modular CLAR platform with a longitudinally placed engine and abundant use of high-strength grades of steel and aluminum in the construction.

In the "base" the car has fully independent suspensions with adaptive electronically controlled shock absorbers: the front is the classic MacPherson struts, and the rear is a multi-link system.

The "charged" coupé is equipped with an M Servotronic steering gear with electric power steering and variable transmission ratio. Nominally, a two-door braking system relies on six-piston front and single-piston rear calipers (the dimension of ventilated discs is 380 mm and 370 mm, respectively). At the same time, as an option, the car can be equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes with devices measuring 400 mm at the front and 380 mm at the rear.

Options and prices

In the Russian market, the BMW M4 of the second generation at the end of 2020 is offered exclusively in the 510-horsepower Competition version, both with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (although only the prices of rear-wheel drive versions have been announced so far).
