The fourth generation of the premium crossover with the factory code "G05" was presented by the Germans to the world community on June 5, 2018 as part of an online presentation. After another "reincarnation", the car went through evolutionary metamorphoses in the exterior and interior, slightly enlarged in size, "moved" to the newest CLAR model platform, "armed" with high-performance engines and received a wide range of equipment.

Outside, the "fourth" BMW X5 attracts attention with its elegant, energetic, rather monumental and thoroughbred outlines - with all its appearance, the all-terrain vehicle inspires awe and respect.

The aggressive "physiognomy" of the crossover is adorned with the piercing gaze of the head lighting technology, the fused "nostrils" of the branded radiator grill and the athletic bumper with large air intakes, and its strong rear flaunts graceful two-section lights, a "curly" trunk lid and a pair of large exhaust pipes.

For all its visual impressiveness, in profile the car looks solid, proportional and, most importantly, dynamic - a long hood, a sloping roofline, expressive "splashes" on the sidewalls and rounded-square wheel arches containing "rollers" with dimensions from 18 to 22 inches.

The overall length of the BMW X5 G05 is extended by 4922 mm, of which the center distance "extends" by 2975 mm, and its width and height fit into 2004 mm and 1745 mm, respectively. In the normal state, the five-door's ground clearance is 214 mm, and its curb weight varies from 2060 to 2286 kg (depending on the modification).

Inside, the fourth generation BMW X5 meets its inhabitants with an attractive, noble and expensive design, which instantly captures the "family" features of the Bavarian premium brand.

"Chubby" three-spoke multi-steering wheel with pronounced tides in the area of ​​the correct grip, a virtual "instrument panel" with a 12.3-inch screen, a massive center console turned towards the driver, crowned with a 12.3-inch display of the media center and stylish blocks of "microclimate" and audio systems, - the interior of the "German" is entirely consistent with his "high status".

In addition to this, the decoration of the car "flaunts" impeccable ergonomics and extremely expensive finishing materials - high-quality leather, Alcantara, natural wood, aluminum, etc.

By default, the interior of the "fourth" BMW X5 is five-seater, but as an option it can be equipped with a two-seater "gallery", capable of taking even adult riders on short trips. On the first row there are competently profiled chairs with a relief folding, moderately rigid padding, a lot of electrical adjustments, heating and other "goodies", and on the second - a comfortable sofa with a folding armrest in the center.

With a five-seat layout, the trunk of a mid-size crossover "flaunts" the correct shape with completely flat walls and a solid volume of 645 liters. The second row of seats folds in three sections in the ratio "40:20:40" into a flat area, which brings the volume of the "hold" to 1860 liters. In the "cellar" under the raised floor there is a defective spare wheel and the necessary set of tools.

The BMW X5 G05 has four variants to choose from:

  • Under the hood X5 xDrive40i hiding gasoline "six" with a working volume of 3.0 liters with in-line architecture, turbocharging, direct fuel injection, 24-valve and phase shifters at the exhaust and intake, which develops 340 horsepower at 5500-6500 rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 1500-5200 rpm.
  • In "service" X5 xDrive50i is a gasoline 4.4-liter V8 engine with two turbochargers, direct power technology, 32-valve timing and variable valve timing, generating 462 hp. at 5250-6000 rpm and 650 Nm of rotational potential at 1500-4750 rpm.
  • Basic diesel version X5 xDrive30d Powered by a 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder unit with a turbocharger, common rail injection and a 24-valve timing belt, which produces 265 hp. at 4000 rpm and 620 Nm of peak thrust at 2000-2500 rpm.
  • The "heart" of the X5 modification M50d is a 3.0-liter diesel with six vertically oriented cylinders, four turbochargers, 24-valve timing and direct fuel injection, producing 400 hp. at 4400 rpm and 760 Nm of torque at 2000-3000 rpm.

By default, the mid-size SUV is equipped with an 8-band hydromechanical automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive transmission with a multi-plate clutch that connects the wheels of the front axle.

As an option, the car is entitled to an "off-road package", which includes a lockable rear differential and several specific algorithms for the operation of driving electronics.

"X-fifth" of the fourth generation can boast of excellent "running" characteristics: it conquers the first "hundred" after 4.7-6.5 seconds, and the maximum "rests" at 230-250 km / h (speed is limited by force).

Gasoline versions of the crossover consume from 8.8 to 11.6 liters of fuel for each combined "hundred", and diesel - from 6.8 to 7.2 liters.

At the heart of the BMW X5 G05 is the modular CLAR bogie with a longitudinally oriented power unit and a monocoque body with a wide range of high-strength steel and aluminum grades.
An independent double-lever is used on the front axle of the off-road vehicle, and a multi-link is used on the rear axle. Nominally, the "German" is equipped with electronically controlled shock absorbers and anti-roll bars, and for a surcharge it is equipped with pneumatic elements "in a circle" and active lateral stabilizers.
The car is equipped with rack and pinion steering with an electromechanical power amplifier and a variable gear ratio, but as an option it can be equipped with a fully steerable chassis with a steering gear of the rear wheels. On all wheels of the five-door, ventilated disc brakes are used, supplemented by a mass of electronic assistants.


In the Russian market, the fourth-generation BMW X5 in 2018 is offered at a price of 4,590,000 rubles - this is how much you will have to pay for the basic xDrive30d modification. The petrol version of the xDrive40i costs at least 4,760,000 rubles, the xDrive50i version will cost from 5,440,000 rubles, and the “heated” version of the M50d cannot be bought cheaper than 5,590,000 rubles.
