The Audi A8 is an all-wheel drive luxury sedan of the executive category (aka "F" class by European standards), which undoubtedly heads the model range of the German automaker and combines: exquisite design, luxurious interior and the most progressive "stuffing" ...

It is addressed, first of all, to wealthy businessmen, senior politicians or representatives of the world show business who "want to get everything from the car at once" ...

The next, fourth in a row, generation of the flagship three-volume with the in-plant index "D5" debuted on July 11, 2017 - at a special forum in Barcelona; and its full-scale premiere took place in September of the same year - at the International Frankfurt Motor Show.

The car, "reflecting the progressive face of the brand," in comparison with the previous generation, has become more noble in appearance, noticeably transformed inside and embodied all the latest developments of Audi.

Outside, the fourth-generation Audi A8 demonstrates an elegant, technological and austere look - the car looks like it should be a flagship, and instantly evokes a sense of respect in city traffic.

The noble front of the four-door is decorated with pointed LED optics, a large "octagon" of the radiator grille with chrome crossbars and a sculpted bumper, and its monumental rear attracts attention with graceful lanterns across the entire width of the body and a "chubby" bumper.

In profile, it is a classic sedan with a long bonnet, domed roofline, huge wheel arch cutouts and an elongated trunk, which boasts balanced, majestic and quite energetic (even despite its impressive dimensions) contours.

The "fourth" Audi A8 in the standard version has the following dimensions: 5172 mm in length, of which 2998 mm is the distance between the front and rear axles, 1945 mm in width (including mirrors - 2130 mm), 1473 mm in height.
The "stretched" version "L" is slightly larger: its length and wheelbase are 5302 mm and 3128 mm, respectively, and the height reaches 1485 mm.

In the standard form, the ground clearance of the car is only 120 mm (and at speeds above 120 km / h it is reduced by another 20 mm).

Inside, the fourth-generation Audi A8 boasts a beautiful, modern and austere design, in which touchscreens reign and there are practically no physical buttons.

The center console is crowned by two 10.1-inch touchscreens, fully integrated into the black surface of the dashboard: the upper one is responsible for the infotainment functions, and the lower one is in charge of the climate system.

The driver's field of vision is a four-spoke multi-steering wheel with an original rim and a fully virtual high-resolution instrument cluster.

The interior of the car is finished with exceptionally high-quality materials of finishing: noble leather, aluminum, natural wood and much more.

In the front part of the "eight" cabin there are comfortable seats with an ergonomic profile, developed side bolsters, padding with optimal rigidity, a bunch of electrical adjustments and all the necessary "benefits of civilization".

As standard, on the second row of the car, you can see a one-piece three-seater sofa with a center armrest, removable tablets and adjustable footrests. But the "top" performance of the executive sedan can boast of two separate rear seats with electric settings, heating, a central curtain of safety and a folding massager in the back of the front right seat.

The trunk of a four-door in its standard form is able to accommodate 510 liters of luggage, but its opening is narrowed due to the batteries and a pneumatic receiver located behind the sidewalls. In an underground niche, he has room for a non-full-size spare wheel and tools.

On the Russian market, the fourth-generation Audi A8 is offered with one petrol engine (modifications "A8 55 TFSI" and "A8 L 55 TFSI") - a V-shaped "six" TFSI with a displacement of 3.0 liters, turbocharging, direct injection, 24-valve Timing and phase shifters at the inlet and outlet, producing 340 horsepower at 5000-6400 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 1370-4500 rpm.

As a standard, the car is equipped with the so-called "mild hybrid" system Mild Hybrid, which includes a combined starter-generator with a belt drive and a 48-volt lithium battery: this solution allows you to turn off the engine in traffic jams and at speeds from 55 to 160 km / h, activating the roll-forward mode.

The power unit on the executive sedan is combined with an 8-range "automatic" ZF with an electric oil pump and a quattro all-wheel drive transmission with a mechanical center differential (by default it divides power in a ratio of 40:60 in favor of the rear wheels) and an active rear differential (optional equipment ).

From one place to the first "hundred" of the fourth generation Audi A8 breaks down in 5.6 seconds (the long-wheelbase version does this exercise 0.1 seconds longer), and reaches a maximum of 250 km / h (the speed is electronically limited).

In the combined cycle, the three-volume "digests" from 7.7 to 8 liters of fuel, depending on the modification.

At the heart of the "fourth" Audi A8 is the modular platform MLB Evo with a longitudinally arranged engine. "In a circle" the car is equipped with independent suspensions with single-chamber air bellows and lateral stabilizers: in the front - with a two-lever, at the rear - with a five-lever. As an option, it has an active "hodovka", in which instead of stabilizers, four electromechanical actuators are used.

The power structure of the body of the four-door consists of aluminum alloys (they account for 58%), high-strength steel, magnesium and carbon fiber composite, coupled with rivets, several types of welding, adhesive joints and screws.

Nominally, the sedan is equipped with a steering with a variable pitch of the rack teeth and an electric amplifier. On request, the three-box can be equipped with a fully-steered chassis with an active front steering gear and a mechanism that, if necessary, turns the rear wheels in the same or opposite direction as the front ones.
Each of the wheels of the car is equipped with ventilated disc brakes, supplemented by ABS, EBD and other electronics.

On the Russian market, the fourth-generation Audi A8 is sold at a price of 5,935,000 rubles, and for the long-wheelbase L version you will have to pay at least 6,715,000 rubles.

As a standard, the car "flaunts": eight airbags, LED headlights and lanterns, 18-inch wheels, dual-zone "climate", a multimedia system, adaptive air suspension, heated steering wheel and front seats, leather interior trim, an audio system with ten speakers, a virtual instrument cluster and a bunch of other equipment.

The "stretched" version by default is equipped with even richer: heated all seats, electric adjustments in the back row, four-zone climate control, electric sun blinds, an automatic door closer and much more.
