The prototype of the first generation Audi TT appeared back in 1994, and its premiere as a concept car took place in 1995 at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. Serial production of the car began in 1998 and ended in 2006 when the second generation TT was introduced.

The “first” Audi TT was a compact sports car, available in Coupe and Roadster bodies (both two-door and two-seater).

The length of the car was 4041 mm, height - 1346 mm, width - 1764 mm, ground clearance - 130 mm. It had a distance of 2422 mm between the axles. Depending on the modification, the curb weight of the first generation Audi TT ranged from 1240 to 1520 kg.

For the Audi TT of the first generation, five gasoline engines with a volume of 1.8 to 3.2 liters were offered, the output of which ranged from 150 to 250 horsepower. They were combined with a 5- or 6-speed manual transmission or 6-band "automatic", front or all-wheel drive quattro. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h for the car took from 5.9 to 8.6 seconds, depending on the modification, and the maximum speed varied from 220 to 250 km / h.

The first generation Audi TT used independent spring suspension at the front and rear. Ventilated disc brakes were installed on the front wheels, disc brakes on the rear.

The first generation of the Audi TT had its merits and demerits. The former include an attractive and stylish appearance, an ergonomic and high-quality interior, stable behavior on the road, good handling, excellent dynamics with almost any engine, acceptable fuel consumption, quite reasonable prices for the car itself, as well as the availability of spare parts.
To the second - a fairly stiff suspension, not ideal backward visibility, and also little space on the rear sofa (but based on the specifics of the model, this can be attributed to shortcomings with a stretch).
